New Leaders Council

The Ideal New Leaders Council Institute Candidate

5_Denver_.jpgWho’s an ideal fit for the New Leaders Council Institute? What kind of person should pursue this intense, five-month progressive leadership and entrepreneurship training program?

Generally, fellows are individuals in their mid 20's to late 30's who have found success in their chosen career path, and are interested in taking their path to the next level. We’re looking for people who are hungry to make an impact. In NLC’s view, here’s what that looks like:

• Progressive advocacy: First and foremost, you consider yourself a progressive, and you’re seeking a values-aligned community. You’re committed to service. Your inclination is to listen before leading and to work with communities to build collaborative change.

• Leadership ability: Maybe you’re an entry- or mid-level professional, but you know you have executive potential and are looking for help unlocking it. You work persistently to ensure quality and success in everything you do, and you possess a healthy balance of team orientation, confidence, and humility.

• Entrepreneurial spirit: You see yourself as a trendsetter and civically- engaged leader who will shape the progressive landscape. You’re curious about the world around you and you’re not afraid to take risks to pursue opportunity.

Two more things: you can commit to one weekend per month for five months, and you’re psyched about receiving world-class training in topics ranging from messaging to finance to new media to political management.

Not involved in political work? Don’t have an M.B.A. or a law degree? T his does not matter. We’re interested in building a diverse network of young professionals to take on important issues of the day. That means politicos, non-profit leaders, educators, environmentalists, journalists, administrators, tech people, attorneys, business folks and more. NLC places a high priority on diversity of race, gender, sexual orientation, income and industry.

Interested? Great – we’re looking forward to getting to know you.
